WITH FIVE CURRENT State Champions and five current Australian Champions training at the Launceston Boxing MMA Club, there are plenty of reasons for smiles all round.

As one of two legitimate boxing clubs in Launceston, the active gym in Prospect Vale operates three nights a week.

“The good thing about boxing is that it doesn’t matter about age or weight or gender.

We have a current three-time Australian female champion at 52kgs here at the gym,” Coach Craig Tobler said.

One of the coaches, Craig Tobler, spoke about one of their home-grown champions, Bailey Wells, 14 years old of Kings Meadows. Bailey is the current Australian Champion for his weight of 44kgs.

Bailey has been boxing for five years to keep fit after football season, he considers boxing to be a life-sport.

“All we’re looking for in boxing is dedication to training. We have a lot of kids that turn up and think they can learn a sport in five minutes.” Mr Tobler said.

“The dedication in this sport is being able to turn up and train constantly.

“It’s actually a real hard sport to learn,” he said.

The club teaches boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts with specialised trainers for each discipline.
