IN MAY, Australians will celebrate the contribution of its over 6 million volunteers during National Volunteer week, 11-17th May.

Volunteers contribute a whopping $200 billion to the Australian economy annually.

National Volunteer week is a great opportunity to say thanks to the many volunteers who make our community stronger. The Meander Valley Volunteer expo is on again this year.

It’s a chance for organisations to promote themselves to prospective volunteers and volunteers to get together. If you are thinking about volunteering but not sure where to start, get along to the Western Tiers Community Club in Deloraine on Tuesday, 12th May from 11am and have a chat with volunteers from the many organisations seeking your help. There will be free lunch, speakers and also a viewing of the video finalists of the ‘What’s fun about being a Volunteer’ competition.

Meander Valley Council recognises the extraordinary contribution of individual volunteers through its annual Voluntary Service Recognition program. Nominations for these are open now.

The awards are presented at the Australia Day function held each year on 26th January. Volunteers recognised as contributing 1,000+ and 3,000+ hours of service are presented with a framed certificate.

Council also seeks volunteers whom are considered to have performed acts over and above normal volunteer work. Such volunteers will be recognised with a specially engraved plaque. For more information please visit www.meander. or contact Merrilyn Young on 6393 5317.
